Tortuguero is considered the most important site of the western part of the Caribbean for the egg-laying of the Green Turtle and other species that come to annually deposit their eggs in their coasts. It is one of the zones with greater environmental variety within the system of national parks, with 11 habitats ecological, from a rainy forest to a marsh community.
